KENS 5 News Interviews Guardian House
Part 1 of 2 Interview with KENS 5 News
Justice Luz Elena Chapa, our Board Chair and Executive Director, Shannon White, MS, LPC-S were asked by KENS 5 News to speak about Guardian House and how we help the community stay safer. When asked when a family would be referred to Guardian House, Justice Chapa explained,
“When there is that component of family violence…a parent [that] has newly established his paternity, Guardian House helps with that new introduction with the child and the new parent. What we need to stress is that Guardian House…allows them [children] to continue their relationship with their non-custodial parent which is so important for their growth…removing their feelings of abandonment…or being scared of the unknown.”
Shannon White explained how Guardian House services benefit families,
“We provide a safe space for them [the children] to come. Within the space, they are able to visit with both of their parents and know they are not in the middle of violence. We also offer:
– Supervised Visitations
– Monitored Exchanges
– Parenting Education
– Counseling”

Security is the utmost importance at Guardian House. As Shannon White explains, we have off-duty deputies from open to close every day. It’s important to note that families never cross paths which helps keep emotions intact.
Justice Chapa shared that Guardian House offers hope and a chance for families to heal from divorce. Continuing a relationship between the parents helps with the children’s well-being.
