Justice Luz Elena D. Chapa, Fourth Court of Appeals
Justice Chapa was elected to serve on the Fourth Court of Appeals effective January 1, 2013, and is currently the youngest serving Hispanic justice in the State of Texas. Justice Chapa is a Texas Bar Foundation Life Fellow, a San Antonio Bar Foundation Fellow, a 2014 Inductee to the San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame and is a member of numerous organizations. Justice Chapa has been married to fellow lawyer, Miguel Chapa, for fourteen years, and they have three children. In addition to her personal and professional responsibilities to her family and the Fourth Court, Justice Chapa devotes her time to mentoring students at Healy Murphy Center, where she serves as Vice President of the board, and to serving on the boards of Clarity Child Guidance Center, St. Mary’s Law Alumni Association, St. Mary’s Hispanic Law Alumni Association, and The Children’s Ballet of San Antonio. She began serving on the Board of Guardian House in 2013. She is a proud member of IMPACT San Antonio and is an official advocate for 1in5Minds.
Tammy Ashby, Broadway Bank
Tammy has over 22 years of experience in Trust Administration. She earned her BAS in Management from Wayland Baptist University and is a graduate of the Texas Trust Schools and of the Cannon Financial Institute Trust Schools. She earned her Certified Trust and Financial Advisor designation in 2001 and her Chartered Advisor of Philanthropy® (CAP®) professional designation from the Richard Irwin Graduate School of the American College, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania in 2014. Tammy is a member of the Institute of Certified Bankers and of San Antonio Estate Planners Council. She is co-chair for the Planned Giving Advisory Council for the San Antonio chapter of the American Red Cross, and a member of University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and the UIW Planned Giving Council. She joined the Guardian House board of directors in 2017.
Andrea M. Marks, UT Health Science Center
Andrea has been the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the UT Health Science Center since 2010. In this position, Andrea leads the oversight of all fiscal policies, plans and programs of the institution related to business and financial operations. She supports the HSC President and COO with long-range financial planning for strategic initiatives in addition to coordinating intra- and inter-organizational business and financial activities and programs. Andrea frequently represents the Health Science Center in business matters with the UT System and the State Legislature. She recommends annual operating budgets and biennial legislative submissions to the State for the Health Science Center’s $800 million operating budget. She is a Certified Public Accountant with over 20 years of experience managing financial operations in higher education within The University of Texas System. Andrea joined the Guardian House board of directors in 2016.
Amy Perry, NuStar Energy
Amy serves as Senior Vice President, General Counsel-Corporate & Commercial Law and Corporate Secretary of NuStar Energy L.P. and NuStar GP Holdings, LLC, both of which are headquartered in San Antonio, Texas. In this role she oversees NuStar’s corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, commercial transactions, corporate governance, external legal reporting, employee benefits issues, ad valorem tax and real estate/right-of-way functions. She also serves as NuStar’s Ethics and Compliance Officer. Amy is also active in the San Antonio community. She serves as Corporate Secretary for Haven for Hope of Bexar County, and she has provided pro bono legal support for the homeless transformation campus. She also serves on the board of directors of The Winston School of San Antonio, and she has previously served on the boards of Clarity Child Guidance Center and the San Antonio Humane Society. Amy joined the Guardian House board of directors in 2016.
Ann Buonocore, Attorney at Law
Ann has been licensed since 1985 as a Family Law Practitioner and Board Certified in Family Law since 2004. Ann’s practice includes all areas of Family Law: divorce, child custody, modification of prior orders, child support determinations, paternity actions, adoptions, termination of parental rights, and ad litem for children. Ann has served as a Board Member for Guardian House since 2011. Ann is originally from New Jersey but has lived in Texas since 1982. She has two children: a senior in high school and a Baylor law student. Ann also has four dogs, four cats, a parrot and is an avid animal rescuer.
Guy Douglas, Media Brokers Group
Guy has had a diverse background throughout his career, including working in the NBA, FOX-TV and the financial industry. He has spent the last 12 years as the President/CEO of Media Brokers Group, a full service advertising agency dealing with TV, radio, billboards, web-design and SEO. Guy has served the community of San Antonio and local non-profits for many years through his participation in the Rey Feo Scholarship Foundation, The Rey Feo Consejo Educational Foundation, UTSA’s Institute of Texan Cultures and serving on the board of directors at Guardian House since 2013. Guy’s hobbies include working out daily, playing basketball, boating, RVing and his favorite, spending time with his family. He has three adult children, two boys and a girl, and three grandchildren, also two boys and a girl.
Deepak Garg, Valero Energy Corporation
Having first joined Valero in 1997 as an Environmental Engineer, Deepak is the Vice President responsible for Valero’s Corporate Environmental, Regulatory Affairs, and Logistics HSE functions. Before joining Valero, Deepak worked for engineering and consulting firms in Houston for seven years. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Madras, India, and a Master of Science degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Houston. Since 1995 he is registered as a professional chemical engineer in Texas. Deepak has served on the Guardian House board of directors since 2011 and is the past president.
James Gillen, Bineham & Gillen, PLLC
James is a managing partner at the law firm, Bineham & Gillen, and specializes in Family Law and Divorce. James, a former US Marine serving during the Persian War, received medals for his honorable service to our country, including the Presidential Citation Medal, Kuwait Service Medal and Expeditionary Medal. After his honorable discharge, he continued his studies and became licensed as a Registered Nurse working with patients in acute distress and needing immediate care. James worked in a Level One Trauma Center Emergency Room as well as almost every ER in San Antonio. In 2005, James earned his law degree from St. Mary’s University and continues to be an active member of the San Antonio Bar Association, San Antonio Bar Association – Family Law Section, San Antonio Trial Lawyers Association, Texas Trial Lawyer Association and the Hispanic Law Alumni Association of St. Mary’s University. James has served on the board of directors at Guardian House since 2010.
Margaret Jones Hagelman, Strasburger & Price LLP
Named Best Lawyer by San Antonio Scene Magazine in 2009, 2012 and 2013, Margaret is a partner with Strasburger & Price, L.L.P. focusing on all aspects of international trade compliance. Her expertise includes compliance with U.S. sanctions, U.S. anti-boycott regulations, and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. She designs and implements import and export compliance programs and provides training on all aspects of international trade compliance. Previously, she was the CEO of a multi-million dollar retail business on the Mexican border. Bringing her business experience to the practice of law, she implements an efficient approach to compliance that facilitates smooth business operations. A native Spanish speaker, Margaret is not only bilingual, but bicultural, as well. She joined the Guardian House board of directors in 2016.
Eileen Jones, Keller Williams
Eileen is a Realtor® working at the Keller Williams Heritage office. She maintains professional certifications to provide her clients the best representation in the ever changing real estate market. A native Texan, and Air Force spouse, Eileen personally served her country as a civilian employee at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC, the Air Force Commissary Service in the Philippines, the AF Nuclear Weapons Storage Facility in Albuquerque NM, and Air Force Education and Training Command at Randolph AFB TX. She received numerous awards as the Employer of Quarter/Year at all of those locations. In addition to her career accomplishments, Eileen has volunteered her time to numerous charitable activities around the world and at home in San Antonio. Eileen has served as president of the San Antonio Aggie Wives Club, chairman of the Bulverde Taste of the Hills charitable fundraiser, treasurer of Keller Williams Hearts and Hands charity, secretary of the Bexar County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse, and supporter of Animal Friends animal rescue facility. She has also served on the Guardian House board of directors since 2011.
Laura Lopez, KGBTexas Communications
Laura is an experienced marketing and public relations manager for corporate, governmental, and non-profit clients. Through creativity and expertise, she develops public relations and marketing strategies, events, campaigns and initiatives to both launch and grow programs in San Antonio and throughout Texas. Her experience with integrated marketing campaigns extends from a local to statewide level with clients such as the San Antonio Tricentennial and Walmart. A native of the Rio Grande Valley, Laura’s bilingual background makes her an asset to clients that benefit from Spanish speaking outreach, communication and messaging. She studied at The University of Texas at Austin and has legislative experience through her work in the Texas Senate. She is a member of the 41st class of Leadership San Antonio and an alumnus of the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Alexander Briseño Leadership Development Program. An active community volunteer and an avid fan of anything burnt orange, Laura serves on the San Antonio Chapter of the Texas Exes. A mother of two active boys, she enjoys her official role as their chauffeur, life coach and biggest fan. Laura joined the Guardian House board of directors in 2017.
Ann H. Patrie, LTC (R), 338 Oil & Gas, Inc.
Ann is a retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel, a philanthropist, accountant, and currently a masters student at Texas A&M University. While in the military, she flew medivac helicopters and was later reassigned to the 374th Medical Detachment Reserves, and it was with this unit that she went to Operation Desert Storm. LTC Patrie was recognized with an achievement within a combat zone and is one of 29 women listed in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. She and her husband are indie film producers and have produced student films nominated for Academy Awards. In 2009, the Patries formed Red Head Dragon Lady Productions (a name given to Ann during her military days) to officially produce indie film projects; they have received numerous awards for their work as producers. She joined the Guardian House board of directors in 2016.
Shannon White, Guardian House
Shannon is the Executive Director at Guardian House. She earned an M.S. in Counseling Psychology from Our Lady of the Lake University. Shannon is a Licensed Professional Counselor, and is licensed to provide supervision to Licensed Professional Counseling-Interns. In addition to providing counseling, over the past 16 years, Shannon’s scope of work has included organizational, program and grant management (at the local, county, state and federal level); program development, implementation and evaluation; employee and volunteer management; and outreach. Shannon is an advocate of creating a safe, therapeutic environment for children to visit with their parents at Guardian House. By approaching every individual in a caring, non-judgmental way our Guardian House team creates a space in which parents can focus their energy on the relationship with their child. Shannon enjoys reading and spending time with her husband of nineteen years and twelve-year old son.
